FUTO Post-UTME: Requirements, Format and Practice

FUTO post-UTME explained from the 2026/2027 advert: a document-based screening, 150/170/200 UTME tiers, CAPS upload deadline, supplementary round and fees.

ExamPadi Editorial · Updated · 6 min read

The Federal University of Technology, Owerri is a useful example of a school where "post-UTME" does not mean sitting an exam. Its 2026/2027 advert describes screening of your verified JAMB score and O'level results. That changes how you should prepare: the work is mostly accuracy and deadlines.

What the screening is

FUTO's advert says nothing about a written or computer-based test. Screening rests on your verified JAMB score and the O'level results uploaded to JAMB CAPS, which means it reads as document screening. We say "reads as" because the advert does not use the words "no test"; confirm on the portal and in any FUTO message. If FUTO changes the format in 2027, you will see it in the new advert first.

Who was eligible in 2026

From the main advert:

  • Applied to JAMB for 2026 admission with FUTO as first choice, or changed to FUTO on JAMB CAPS before the stated cut-off date.
  • Aged at least 16 by 30 September 2026.
  • Five O'level credits including English Language and Mathematics, with relevant subjects, in no more than two sittings. MBBS applicants need English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology at one sitting.
  • Minimum UTME score by programme: 150 for most agriculture, biological, environmental, logistics, health technology, engineering and physical science programmes; 170 for Computer Science, Cyber Security, IT, Software Engineering, Architecture, Optometry, Radiography, Human Anatomy and Human Physiology, and some engineering and electrical programmes; 200 for MBBS.
  • Direct Entry: A'level passes in relevant subjects, or an OND, HND or first degree in a relevant discipline.

The advert lists exact programme tables. The tiers above are a summary, so check your programme in the table.

How to apply

Use portal.futo.edu.ng (the advert points to the undergraduate section; you can also reach it from futo.edu.ng under Prospective Students). Generate an invoice with your JAMB number, pay the RRR at a bank or online, log in, complete the application form, submit and print the acknowledgement slip. Questions can go to the ICT contacts in the advert. The main-round fee in the advert is low compared with the supplementary round, so check the figure on the portal before paying anyone.

The supplementary round

FUTO also advertised a supplementary post-UTME for candidates who chose FUTO first in the 2026 UTME. The portal ran from 24 September to 8 October 2026. The fee was ₦18,000 for those who had earlier applied for the post-UTME, and ₦20,000 for fresh applicants. The supplementary advert covers UTME candidates only; Direct Entry is in the main advert. This shows that fees and rules can differ between rounds, so never copy last year's numbers.

No 2027 dates are announced; see post-UTME 2027 dates.

What is not published

FUTO's adverts give no aggregate formula and no test content. If a formula is used in ranking, FUTO has not stated it in the adverts we read. Our aggregate calculator guide is a general explainer, not a FUTO statement.

A preparation plan for FUTO

  1. Upload O'level results to CAPS early, and keep your slips.
  2. Check programme tier. If you chose a 170-tier or 200-tier programme, compare your score and consider switching on JAMB CAPS before the deadline.
  3. Keep your academic edge. Admission may still depend on your overall standing, so keep revising English Language and Mathematics through English practice and Mathematics practice.
  4. Prepare a fallback. Read about test-based schools such as UNILAG too, so a format change does not catch you out.

Original example for daily practice: A solution has 20 g of salt in 80 g of water. What is the percentage of salt by mass of the solution? The total mass is 100 g, so salt is 20%. This is ours, not from FUTO.

Checklist before you pay anything

  • Check your programme's UTME tier in the advert's table before paying.
  • Upload O'level results to JAMB CAPS by the stated date; the advert says missed deadlines mean you are not considered.
  • For Direct Entry, send transcripts to the Registrar by the stated date.
  • Know which round you are in: the supplementary round had much higher fees than the main round.

A six-week schedule

WeekFocusTarget
1Document auditEvery name, number and upload matches your JAMB profile
2Score and cut-off checkCompare your UTME score with your programme's published figure
3Core skillsThree 25-question sets in English Language and Mathematics
4Course subjectsTwo sets per subject, reviewed the next day
5Mixed timed setOne 40-question set in case a test is added
6Buffer for portal problemsSubmit early, save every receipt

Because FUTO's screening reads as document-based, the first three weeks should go to accuracy of records. Adjust the weeks if your window is shorter, and cut the number of subjects rather than the number of timed sets.

Two more practice questions

Both are original, written for this guide, and not taken from any FUTO paper.

  1. Convert 0.6 to a percentage and to a fraction. Working: 0.6 = 60% = 3/5.
  2. What is the SI unit of electric current? Working: The ampere.

After each set, write down why you missed a question: a content gap, a careless slip or a time problem. Each needs a different fix.

Practise now

ExamPadi has 46,182 practice questions across JAMB, WAEC, NECO and NABTEB, with timed CBT mode, free practice and a Pro tier, on Android, iOS, web and Windows. Practise for your Post-UTME and stay sharp while you handle the paperwork. Confirm every date, fee and score on the university's official portal or website before you act; no guide can promise admission.
