The University of Lagos is one of the most applied-to schools in Nigeria, so its post-UTME draws a crowd. This guide sets out what UNILAG's own 2026/2027 notice said, flags what the university did not publish, and gives you a practice plan. UNILAG can change any detail each year, so treat this as a map and confirm on the official portal before you pay for anything.

What the screening is

For 2026/2027, UNILAG's notice describes an online aptitude test that candidates had to take to be considered for admission. The notice also mentions a mock examination period before the main test. It does not say how many questions there are, how long the test lasts, or which subjects it covers, so we cannot tell you those. Anyone claiming exact numbers is guessing or using an older year.

Who was eligible in 2026

According to UNILAG's notice:

  • UNILAG had to be your first choice in the 2026 UTME.
  • You needed a UTME score of 200 or above.
  • You needed five credit passes at one sitting, including English Language and Mathematics.
  • You had to be at least 16 years old by 30 September 2026.
  • O'level results had to be uploaded to both JAMB CAPS and the UNILAG portal.

The notice also says admission is withdrawn from anyone who tests positive for drugs, and that students expelled from UNILAG are not eligible. Former students whose admission was withdrawn for poor performance or absence may reapply only for a different programme.

How to apply

The notice names the portal applications.unilag.edu.ng. The steps it gives are: start a new application and choose "Undergraduate", log in with your UTME application number, generate and print the payment advice, pay, complete the screening form, and print your Post-UTME examination pass. It also tells candidates to use a personal email address, because that is the official channel for messages. The notice lists a 2,000 naira screening fee and a 3,500 naira application fee; fees can change, so read the current amounts on the portal itself.

Legit.ng reported that UNILAG released the screening results on 7 August 2026 and that the score is used alongside the UTME score in admission decisions. That is a press report, not a UNILAG statement. As at 29 October 2026, no 2027 dates are announced; see our post-UTME 2027 dates tracker.

What is not published

UNILAG's notice does not state the aggregate formula, the test subjects or the number of questions. Several websites publish formulas for UNILAG, and they disagree with each other. Our aggregate calculator guide shows how to work through a formula once you have one from a trustworthy source, but check it against UNILAG before relying on it.

A practice plan for UNILAG

Because the subjects are not published, prepare broadly and then narrow down as soon as the 2027 notice appears.

  1. Weeks 1 to 2: foundation. Revise English Language and Mathematics first. Both are in the O'level requirement, and aptitude-style tests usually reward speed and accuracy in these areas.
  2. Weeks 3 to 4: your course subjects. Drill the subjects you wrote in the UTME for your course. Use ExamPadi English practice and Mathematics practice as the daily warm-up.
  3. Weeks 5 to 6: timed sets. Practise in a computer-style setting. Our CBT exam tips cover pacing, flagging questions and what to do when the clock is short.
  4. Final week: review mistakes. Re-read errors in a notebook rather than learning new topics.

Here is an original example of the kind of arithmetic reasoning that helps. It is not from any UNILAG paper.

A shop sells a bag of rice for ₦45,000 after a 10% discount. What was the price before the discount? Working: ₦45,000 is 90% of the original price, so the original is 45,000 ÷ 0.9 = ₦50,000.

For general method, see how to prepare for post-UTME and how to use past questions properly, without chasing leaked papers or "expo". There is no shortcut that guarantees a score, and paying a stranger for "the questions" is a quick way to lose money. Compare UNILAG's route with UI and OAU so you can plan a backup.

Checklist before you pay anything

  • Pay only through applications.unilag.edu.ng; UNILAG's notice says your personal email is the official channel, so do not hand your login to an agent.
  • Check that your five credits were obtained at one sitting, since the notice asks for that.
  • Upload your O'level results to both JAMB CAPS and the UNILAG portal, because the notice names both.
  • Keep your Post-UTME examination pass; the notice lists printing it as the last step.

A six-week schedule

WeekFocusTarget
1Diagnostic: a 30-question timed set in English Language and MathematicsNote your time per question and your score
2Fix the weakest topics from the diagnosticOne topic a day, 20 questions each
3Course subjectsTwo timed sets per subject
4Mixed blocks40 questions in about 40 minutes
5Full rehearsal under test rulesNo phone, no calculator unless the notice allows it
6Light review and logisticsSlip, ID, route, sleep

The notice also mentions a mock examination period, so use it as a rehearsal rather than skipping it. Adjust the weeks if your window is shorter, and cut the number of subjects rather than the number of timed sets.

Two more practice questions

Both are original, written for this guide, and not taken from any UNILAG paper.

  1. The ratio of boys to girls in a hall is 3:5 and there are 120 students. How many are girls? Working: The girls are 5 out of 8 parts, so 5 ÷ 8 × 120 = 75.
  2. Choose the word closest in meaning to "candid": (A) secretive (B) frank (C) hasty (D) gentle. Working: The answer is (B) frank, which means open and honest.

After each set, write down why you missed a question: a content gap, a careless slip or a time problem. Each needs a different fix.
