FUTA Post-UTME: Requirements, Format and Practice
FUTA post-UTME explained from the university's 2026/2027 extension notice: 180 UTME rule, July deadline, O'level upload, what is unpublished and how to prepare.

The Federal University of Technology, Akure keeps its screening notices short. Here is what the 2026/2027 notice says, plus the cautions on dates and format.
What the screening is
FUTA calls it the Post-UTME screening exercise. The notice we read states the eligibility and registration details but does not describe a test: no subjects, no duration and no question count are given. It does state that a candidate who is not screened will not be considered for admission. So the safe plan is to complete the screening step exactly as instructed and to check the portal for any test or interview instructions.
Who was eligible in 2026
From FUTA's notice:
- A minimum of 180 in the 2026 UTME, or Direct Entry with FUTA as first choice.
- O'level results uploaded to JAMB CAPS by the registration deadline.
- Age of at least 16 by 30 September 2026.
- A screening fee paid on Remita after generating a code (MySchoolNews reported 2,000 naira; confirm the amount on the portal before paying).
Some websites mention course-specific cut-offs above 180. We did not see a course table in the notice, so check your department's requirement.
How to apply
Start from FUTA's application portal information page at firarsapp.futa.edu.ng/apps/applications, which is linked from the main site. Press coverage of the original opening reported registration from 1 June, with a close in early July; the extension notice then moved the deadline.
Last cycle's timeline (2026/2027)
| Item | Date |
|---|---|
| Registration open (reported) | from 1 June 2026 |
| Original close (reported) | 3 July 2026 |
| Extended close (FUTA extension notice, as cited; we could not reopen the page) | 31 July 2026 |
| Further extension (AbsTechConnect, 11 August 2026) | 13 August 2026 |
| O'level upload deadline | 31 July 2026 per the FUTA notice as cited; MySchoolNews gave 3 July for the original round, so check CAPS |
AbsTechConnect reported a further extension to 13 August 2026. We could not match that to an official notice, so confirm any later deadline on the portal. We found no official announcement of screening dates or a test. No 2027 dates are announced; see post-UTME 2027 dates.
Why the extension matters
FUTA's notice is an extension notice, which tells you something useful: windows can move, and people who treated the first deadline as final may have registered late or in a rush. Treat every date you read as provisional until the portal confirms it, and register early in whichever window is open. If you miss a window entirely, the notice is blunt: a candidate who is not screened is not considered for admission, so there is no safe way to skip the step.
Course choice matters too. The notice sets a university-wide floor of 180, but individual courses can admit only candidates well above the floor when many people apply. Use your UTME score, your subject strengths and the published course requirements to decide whether to stay with your course or move to a related one on JAMB CAPS while that is still possible.
What is not published
The notice states no aggregate formula and no test content. The aggregate calculator guide explains the general method; use only a formula that FUTA provides.
A practice plan for FUTA
If FUTA's screening is mostly documents, the best preparation is accuracy. If it adds a test, your preparation should be ready.
- Fix the paperwork. Upload O'level results to CAPS as soon as they are available, and check name spellings against your JAMB record.
- Technology-course basics. If you are applying for engineering, computing or sciences, spend time on Mathematics and Physics reasoning. Use Mathematics practice and English practice as the daily base.
- Short timed sets. Do 25-question sets in 30 minutes, then review. Our guide to using past questions shows how.
- Hold the last week for review. Do not pick up new topics.
Original example: A car's speed rises from 10 m/s to 30 m/s in 8 seconds. What is its acceleration? (30 − 10) ÷ 8 = 2.5 m/s². This is our question, not from FUTA.
Read how to prepare for post-UTME and compare the document-based style of FUTO and FUT Minna. Nobody can guarantee admission.
Checklist before you pay anything
- Check the deadline on the FUTA portal, because the registration date moved at least once.
- Upload O'level results to JAMB CAPS by the date in the notice.
- Confirm that you will be 16 by 30 September of the admission year.
- Pay only through Remita after generating a code on the official portal.
A six-week schedule
| Week | Focus | Target |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Find the official notice and note the rules | A one-page summary in your own words |
| 2 | Core skills | Three 25-question sets in English Language and Mathematics |
| 3 | Course subjects | Two sets per subject |
| 4 | Timed mixed blocks | 40 questions in about 40 minutes |
| 5 | Adapt to the announced format | Switch to test, document or interview preparation |
| 6 | Review and logistics | Slip, ID, route, sleep |
FUTA's notice is short, so check the portal for format details when you register. Adjust the weeks if your window is shorter, and cut the number of subjects rather than the number of timed sets.
Two more practice questions
Both are original, written for this guide, and not taken from any FUTA paper.
- A force of 12 N acts on a 3 kg mass. What is the acceleration? Working: a = F ÷ m = 12 ÷ 3 = 4 m/s².
- Simplify √50. Working: √50 = √(25 × 2) = 5√2.
After each set, write down why you missed a question: a content gap, a careless slip or a time problem. Each needs a different fix.
