NECO 2027 Timetable (SSCE Internal): Proposed Dates

The proposed NECO SSCE window for 2027 is 1 April to 14 May. Compare it with the 2026 dates, see what NECO has not released and where to check.

The National Examinations Council (NECO) runs the SSCE Internal for school candidates. For 2027 the proposed window is 1 April to 14 May 2027. That is a big change from 2026, and it matters if you are in SS3 now.

As with the other exams in the 2027 calendar, the dates are a proposal, not a confirmed NECO timetable.

Proposed NECO SSCE dates for 2027

ItemProposed 2027
NECO SSCE (Internal)1 April to 14 May 2027
Results targetAugust 2027
Subject-by-subject timetableNot yet released
Registration dates and feesNot announced

The proposal was published by the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation on 14 October 2026 after a meeting of examination bodies at the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja. JAMB then shared the table on its social media pages, and Nairametrics reported on it. The ministry said the goal was to align schedules, minimise clashes and have results out by August 2027 so that admissions can begin in September.

2026 versus 2027

2026 (actual)2027 (proposed)
NECO SSCE Internal15 June to 23 July 2026 (reported)1 April to 14 May 2027
ResultsAnnounced 24 September 2026Target: August 2027

The 2026 window comes from education-site reports of the NECO timetable, and the 23 July end date is consistent with NAN's report that results came 63 days after the exam ended. If the 2027 proposal is confirmed, NECO would start about two and a half months earlier than in 2026, and the results target (August) is earlier than the late-September release of 2026.

Why this matters for your planning

An April start means NECO is no longer a "June exam". You are likely to be sitting it before WAEC, whose proposed window opens on 11 May, and soon after the proposed UTME window of 15 to 25 March. For many SS3 students that makes the months from March to June very crowded.

From 29 October 2026 to 1 April 2027 is 154 days, which is 22 weeks. That is enough time, but not a lot of slack.

A workable plan for students sitting several exams:

  1. Treat overlapping subjects as one pool. English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Economics appear in JAMB, WAEC and NECO. Study them once, properly, and practise in each exam's style.
  2. Fix the dates you are sure about. Right now that is nothing. Keep a pencil-written schedule and update it once the bodies confirm.
  3. Do timed papers early. If NECO starts on 1 April, your mock work should happen in February and March, not April.

Our WAEC 2027 timetable page and the 2027 exam calendar show how the three fit together.

What NECO has not released

As at 29 October 2026, we found no NECO notice on any of these for 2027:

  • the dated, subject-by-subject timetable;
  • registration opening and closing dates;
  • the registration fee;
  • how many papers will be computer-based.

When we searched, we found only 2026 material. If a blog shows you a "NECO 2027 timetable" with every paper dated, ask where the dates came from. Without an official notice, it is a guess.

How NECO SSCE Internal registration worked in 2026

For SS3 students, registration normally goes through the school, so your principal or exams officer is your first contact. Education sites reported several different registration deadlines for the 2026 cycle, which is a warning against relying on third-party summaries. For 2027, use your school and neco.gov.ng for the rules, fees and deadlines.

Look at the numbers behind the exam

In 2026, 1,378,048 candidates registered and 1,371,992 sat the SSCE Internal. Of them, 804,948 (58.67%) earned five credits including English Language and Mathematics. Read more in NECO 2026 in numbers.

Do not buy "expo"

Each year, people are tricked into paying for leaked questions or "runs". NECO reported a drop in malpractice cases in 2026, from 3,878 to 1,406, and invigilation is only getting tighter. The only reliable preparation is practice.

Reading the timetable when it comes

Once NECO publishes the subject-by-subject schedule, work through it in this order:

  1. List your registered subjects and highlight their dates.
  2. Find any subjects that fall close together. Those days need the most careful preparation.
  3. Note which papers have practical components and check the arrangements with your school.
  4. Compare it with the WAEC schedule if you are sitting both, since the proposed windows overlap from 11 to 14 May 2027.
  5. Put the final dates on your wall and update your study plan to match.

A realistic week-by-week frame

Counting from 29 October 2026, here is a rough frame to the proposed start on 1 April 2027. It is advice, not an official plan.

PeriodFocus
Weeks 1 to 8 (to late December)Finish the syllabus in your hardest subjects
Weeks 9 to 14 (to early February)Topic-by-topic practice in every subject
Weeks 15 to 20 (to mid-March)Full timed papers; fix recurring mistakes
Final two weeksLight revision, rest and logistics

Students who are also sitting the UTME in mid-March will need to merge this with JAMB preparation. Because English and Mathematics appear in both, plan them as shared work.
