NECO GCE 2027 Timetable: What Is Known So Far
NECO has not announced a 2027 GCE timetable. See the reported dates for the November/December 2026 series, how deadlines are reported and how to confirm them.

NECO's GCE, also called the SSCE External, is the second sitting for people who are not school candidates: resit candidates, private candidates and people who need an O'level result for admission or a job. The question many people ask now is, "What is the NECO GCE 2027 timetable?"
The answer: NECO has not announced a 2027 GCE timetable. We found no official notice. The proposed national calendar for 2027 lists NECO's main SSCE window, 1 April to 14 May 2027, but not the external series. What exists today is the November/December 2026 series, and its dates are the best guide to the usual pattern.
What is confirmed and what is not
| Item | Status |
|---|---|
| NECO GCE 2027 exam dates | Not announced |
| NECO GCE 2027 registration and fee | Not announced |
| Nov/Dec 2026 series | Dates reported by education sites (below); the exam window has not started |
The November/December 2026 series
These details come from education-site reports that say they draw on NECO's registration communications. We could not open an official NECO notice with the full text, so please confirm everything on the external portal, ssceexternal.neco.gov.ng.
| Item | Reported for the 2026 series |
|---|---|
| Registration opened | 30 July 2026 |
| Regular registration deadline | 17 November 2026 |
| Late registration | 18 to 24 November 2026, with an extra N5,000 |
| Fee | N30,000 on the portal, plus Remita charges and stamp duty |
| Walk-in registration | Reported as N43,000 |
| Exam window | Wednesday 25 November to Saturday 12 December 2026 |
| Format | Dual mode: computer-based and pen-and-paper |
| Identity | A verified NIN is required |
Watch out for conflicting deadlines. The page we read gave 17 November 2026 as the regular deadline, but it also linked to a newer version saying registration closes on 26 October. As at 29 October, if that earlier date is right, the regular window has already closed. This is exactly why you must read the notice on the portal rather than a summary, and why you should not wait until the last week.
The pattern from earlier years
Education sites reported the 2025 series as running from 26 November to 13 December 2025, with a registration deadline of 18 November. So the NECO GCE has recently been a late-November to mid-December exam. If NECO follows the same pattern, the next series would fall in November and December 2027. That is a pattern, not an announcement, and it could change.
How to prepare a realistic plan
Because the 2027 dates are unknown, work with ranges rather than exact days:
- Decide whether you will sit the 2026 series. If you still intend to register for this year's sitting, go to the portal today and confirm whether registration is open, rather than relying on a blog.
- If you are aiming for the next series, plan for late 2027 and check NECO's site regularly from mid-year.
- Compare options. NECO and WAEC both run private-candidate series. Many universities accept either, but always check your target course's requirements. See the WAEC GCE 2027 timetable page.
- Check your NIN. The portal reportedly would not proceed without a verified NIN. Fix any record errors before you register.
Do not confuse GCE with the school sitting
The NECO SSCE Internal is for school candidates, and its proposed 2027 window is 1 April to 14 May. See the NECO 2027 timetable page. The external series is a different registration, a different portal and a different timetable.
If you want to see how all the 2027 exams line up, the 2027 exam calendar shows what is proposed and what is not.
Study smart for a resit
A resit is a chance to fix a specific problem, so use it that way:
- List the subjects you need and the grade you are chasing.
- Look at the topics that cost you marks last time.
- Practise with timed questions, because pace matters in a CBT-format paper.
- Review every wrong answer and write down the correction in your own words.
Stay away from anyone selling "expo" or answers. NECO has cut malpractice cases sharply in its latest SSCE Internal, and results can be cancelled. Nothing replaces understanding.
NECO GCE versus WAEC GCE
Many private candidates ask which one to take. Here is a neutral comparison of what the reports say about 2026:
| NECO GCE (SSCE External) | WAEC GCE (private candidates) | |
|---|---|---|
| Main series | November/December | First Series in early 2026 and Second Series later in the year |
| Reported format | Hybrid: computer-based and pen-and-paper | Computer-based |
| Registration | Online portal | Online portal |
| Reported fee | N30,000 | N37,000 (reports differ) |
Neither table cell here is a guarantee for 2027. Both bodies change dates, fees and formats between years. Compare the two notices when they appear, check your target institution's list of accepted results, and decide on facts, not rumours. Our WAEC GCE 2027 timetable page covers the other side.
Questions to ask before you pay
- Is registration still open, and what is the deadline on the portal today?
- What is the all-in cost, including portal charges and any late fee?
- Which centre will I be assigned, and can I reach it easily?
- Is my NIN verified, and are my details exactly as on my NIN record?
