If you are in SS3 and wondering when the 2027 WASSCE for school candidates begins, the proposed answer is 11 May 2027, with the exam window running to 18 June 2027. That window comes from a proposed, harmonised national calendar. It is not yet WAEC's own published timetable, and WAEC has not released the subject-by-subject schedule.
The proposed WASSCE window
| Item | Proposed 2027 |
|---|---|
| WASSCE for school candidates | 11 May to 18 June 2027 |
| Results target | August 2027 |
| Subject-by-subject timetable | Not yet released by WAEC |
| Registration dates and fees | Not announced |
The proposal came from a meeting of heads of examination bodies at the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja. It was published by the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation on 14 October 2026 and picked up by Nairametrics a few days later. The stated aim was to avoid clashes between exams and to release results by August 2027, so tertiary admissions can start from September.
The same calendar proposes dates for JAMB, NECO, NABTEB and NBAIS. We set them out together in the 2027 Nigerian exam calendar.
2026 versus 2027
| 2026 (actual) | 2027 (proposed) | |
|---|---|---|
| WASSCE school candidates | 21 April to 19 June 2026 | 11 May to 18 June 2027 |
| Results | Announced 5 August 2026 | Target: August 2027 |
The 2026 window was reported as 21 April to 19 June in the WAEC timetable coverage (Premium Times gave 24 April as the start in its results report). The proposed 2027 window starts about three weeks later and ends one day earlier. WAEC has not explained what that means for the paper schedule, so do not read more into it than the dates themselves.
What happened with 2026 results
For context, WAEC announced its 2026 school-candidate results on 5 August 2026 at a press briefing in Lagos. Premium Times reported that 1,950,726 candidates sat the exam, and 1,200,514 of them (61.54%) obtained five credits and above including English Language and Mathematics, a drop of 1.42 percentage points from 2025. We go through these numbers in WAEC 2026 results in numbers.
What WAEC has not released
As at 29 October 2026, we found no official WAEC publication of any of the following for 2027:
- the dated, subject-by-subject timetable for school candidates;
- registration deadlines or fees;
- details of how many papers will be computer-based.
Be careful with websites that publish a "WAEC 2027 timetable" with specific subject dates. Treat any such page with caution until WAEC itself publishes. In the 2026 cycle, WAEC released the school-candidates timetable in the weeks before the exam (Nairametrics reported it on 30 March 2026, ahead of the 21 April start), so the 2027 subject schedule will most likely appear in a similar pre-exam window. That is a pattern, not a promise.
Where to get the real timetable
- Go to waecnigeria.org, WAEC's official Nigerian site, and check the news and timetable sections.
- Ask your school. Schools register candidates with WAEC and receive the official materials, so your principal or exams officer will have the final paper.
- Print the final timetable and paste it where you study.
How to use the months you have
From 29 October 2026 to 11 May 2027 is 194 days, about 28 weeks. That is a comfortable runway if you use it well. A practical split:
- Now to January: finish the syllabus for each subject, starting with the ones you find hardest.
- February to March: practise topic by topic and fix weak areas. Remember that the proposed UTME window, 15 to 25 March, may overlap with this stretch if you are also sitting JAMB. See our guide on balancing WAEC and JAMB preparation.
- April: full timed papers for each subject, including practical subjects if you have them.
- Final fortnight: light revision and rest.
If you sit both WAEC and NECO, the NECO window is proposed to start earlier, on 1 April 2027. Plan with that in mind, and read our NECO 2027 timetable page.
Avoid the shortcuts
Every year, people sell "expo" or leaked papers around WASSCE time. It is fraud, it does not work, and being caught can cancel your results. The only reliable route is practice and understanding.
How to read the timetable when it arrives
WAEC timetables list papers by subject, date and session. When yours is published, do these four things:
- Mark every subject you registered for, and check that no two fall in the same session. If they do, tell your school at once so it can raise the clash with WAEC.
- Note the gaps. Free days between papers are your revision days. Plan them subject by subject.
- Check which papers have practical or oral components. These are usually scheduled separately from the written papers, so ask your school for the practical arrangements.
- Count back from each paper. Write the number of days to your hardest subject on a card and keep it where you study.
Common date myths
- "WAEC always starts in the same week." It does not. The 2026 school sitting began on 21 April, and the 2027 proposal begins on 11 May.
- "A timetable on social media is official." Only the version on WAEC's own site or handed to your school counts.
- "Results come at the same time every year." Results for 2026 came on 5 August. For 2027 the stated target is August, but that is a target, not a date.
