UNIZIK Post-UTME: Requirements, Format and Practice

UNIZIK post-UTME explained: automated UTME and O'level screening, pass marks by programme, the reported 70/30 formula, portal, fee and 2026/2027 dates.

Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has moved to what it calls an automated system that combines your UTME and O'level results, rather than a separate test. The university's own 2025/2026 notice lists pass marks by programme, and press reports give the formula. Here is what is firm and what needs checking.

What the screening is

UNIZIK's 2025/2026 notice describes a post-UTME and Direct Entry screening exercise completed through its application portal. A later university statement, as reported by MySchoolNews, said an automated system integrates UTME and O'level results into one score. No sit-down test is described in either document. For 2026/2027, Legit.ng reported (from a notice it saw on UNIZIK's Facebook page) a screening exercise from 27 May to 21 June 2026 and a UTME cut-off of 160.

Who can apply

From UNIZIK's official 2025/2026 notice:

  • UNIZIK or an affiliate institution had to be your first choice in the 2025 UTME, and you needed the programme's pass mark.
  • Pass mark 200: Law, Medical Laboratory Science, Medicine, and health programmes such as Nursing Sciences, Radiography and Pharmacy.
  • Pass mark 180: programmes such as English language, History, Chemical, Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Economics, Accountancy and Computer Science.
  • Pass mark 160: programmes such as Agriculture, Education, Mathematics, Physics, Banking and Finance and Marketing; 150 for affiliate institutions.
  • Direct Entry: holders of OND, HND, a first degree or A'level in relevant disciplines.

For 2026/2027, Legit.ng reported 160 as the general UTME cut-off and that it was above the 150 floor JAMB had set for universities. Programme-level pass marks for the new session were not in the report we read.

How to apply

Visit apply.unizik.edu.ng, create an account by validating your JAMB number, add your O'level results, buy the form for 2,000 naira (card or bank) and submit. You can edit O'level results while registration is open, then they lock. The notice also required O'level (and A'level for DE) results to be uploaded on JAMB CAPS; candidates with a wrong UTME subject combination had to change course at a JAMB CBT centre. Direct Entry candidates forward transcripts to the Registrar and hard copies to the Deputy Registrar (Admissions).

How your score is worked out

MySchoolNews reported UNIZIK's formula for 2025/2026: 70% UTME (out of 400) and 30% O'level. The best four O'level subjects, including English, are scored with points reported as A1 = 90, B2 = 80, B3 = 70, C4 = 60, C5 = 55, C6 = 50, then lower or zero values, and a single sitting earns a 10-point bonus. The report's D7 value (8) looks like a typo and its worked example does not add up, so treat the table as indicative and confirm with UNIZIK. The idea is easy to model with our aggregate calculator guide.

What is not published

Not published in sources we could verify: the 2026/2027 programme pass marks in a readable official notice, a corrected O'level points table, and whether the 2025/2026 formula carried forward to 2026/2027.

Before you pay or submit

Scam sites copy university notices every admission season, so check these before you part with money for UNIZIK:

  • Type the portal address yourself or follow the link from the university's own website; do not use links sent on WhatsApp or social media.
  • Confirm the fee on the portal screen and keep the payment receipt and your application slip.
  • Compare the name on your JAMB profile, O'level result and birth documents letter by letter, because mismatches cause avoidable problems.
  • Never pay anyone who promises UNIZIK admission, leaked questions or "expo"; they are scams and malpractice can cost you your place.

A practice plan for UNIZIK

  1. Make the UTME score count. UNIZIK's reported formula gives your UTME 70%, so every extra UTME point is worth more than a marginal O'level grade. Your UTME score is the part of the process you can still influence, so spend most of your time on the four UTME subjects. Our guide to scoring 300 in JAMB is a good place to start.
  2. Keep your O'level record clean. Check that your name, date of birth and subjects match across your JAMB profile, result slips and birth documents. UNIZIK required O'level results on both JAMB CAPS and its own portal, so check both before the deadline.
  3. Sharpen English and Mathematics every day. Short sessions on English Language practice and Mathematics practice help with the UTME and with any aptitude test a university adds later.
  4. Run timed blocks. In the last month before the UTME, practise in 40-question timed sets with a visible clock; CBT exam tips explains how to pace yourself.
  5. Set a weekly rhythm. Plan five study days and one review day, and log your scores each week so you can see which topics are slipping before the next UTME and screening cycle.

Original example: A candidate scores 260 out of 400 in the UTME. What is that as a percentage? 260 divided by 400 is 0.65, which is 65%. Under a 70% weight that is worth 45.5 marks. This is our own question, not from UNIZIK.
