ABSU Post-UTME: Requirements, Format and Practice

ABSU post-UTME explained: online screening, a reported 150 UTME floor, the 2,000 naira fee, the portal, what to upload and what is unpublished.

ExamPadi Editorial · Updated · 6 min read

Abia State University, Uturu, treats its post-UTME as an online upload-and-register exercise. The 2026/2027 notice, as reported by MySchoolNews, lists who may apply, what to upload and how to pay, but it leaves out dates and any scoring detail. This guide covers that notice and the gaps.

What the screening is

MySchoolNews reported on 11 June 2026 that ABSU had begun an online Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening exercise for regular degree programmes. Applicants upload their UTME scores and O'level results (and degree certificates for Direct Entry) and complete registration on the ABSU portal and the JAMB portal. The report describes no test paper, questions or venue.

Who can apply

As reported from the 2026/2027 notice:

  • A score of 150 and above in the 2026 UTME.
  • Candidates who selected ABSU as first choice, as second choice, or who were willing to change institution to ABSU were all eligible.
  • At least five credit passes in relevant O'level subjects in line with programme requirements.
  • All Direct Entry candidates applying for degree programmes.

The report warned that failing to complete registration disqualifies a candidate from admission consideration.

How to apply

Register online at portal.abiastateuniversity.edu.ng (the portal named in the report) and through the JAMB portal, and pay a non-refundable 2,000 naira. The notice listed ABSU Microfinance Bank, Uturu, and several commercial banks, plus bank debit cards online, as payment channels. Questions were directed to the Registrar at [email protected] (reported by an education site). The official domain abiastateuniversity.edu.ng showed only a minimal page when we opened it, so check it directly.

How your score is worked out

No weights were stated for 2026/2027. With uploads of UTME scores and O'level results as the screening method, the combined score probably uses those two inputs, but the split is not published, so we do not estimate it. Our aggregate calculator guide covers the general approach.

What is not published

Not published in sources we could verify: opening and closing dates for 2026/2027, the aggregate formula, departmental cut-offs and any test element. A Scribd page showing a student's screening acknowledgement is not an official source and we did not use it.

If ABSU was not your first choice

The reported notice allowed second-choice candidates and those who had not picked ABSU at all, provided they changed institution. Do that through JAMB before you pay on the ABSU portal, because university portals generally pull your details from your JAMB record. Keep the JAMB change confirmation in case the portal does not show your updated choice immediately.

Before you pay or submit

Scam sites copy university notices every admission season, so check these before you part with money for ABSU:

  • Type the portal address yourself or follow the link from the university's own website; do not use links sent on WhatsApp or social media.
  • Confirm the fee on the portal screen and keep the payment receipt and your application slip.
  • Compare the name on your JAMB profile, O'level result and birth documents letter by letter, because mismatches cause avoidable problems.
  • Never pay anyone who promises ABSU admission, leaked questions or "expo"; they are scams and malpractice can cost you your place.

A practice plan for ABSU

  1. Make the UTME score count. ABSU's reported process is upload-based, so your UTME score and O'level grades are what get assessed. Your UTME score is the part of the process you can still influence, so spend most of your time on the four UTME subjects. Our guide to scoring 300 in JAMB is a good place to start.
  2. Keep your O'level record clean. Check that your name, date of birth and subjects match across your JAMB profile, result slips and birth documents. Have clear scans of your UTME result, O'level results and, for Direct Entry, your degree certificates ready before you open the portal.
  3. Sharpen English and Mathematics every day. Short sessions on English Language practice and Mathematics practice help with the UTME and with any aptitude test a university adds later.
  4. Run timed blocks. In the last month before the UTME, practise in 40-question timed sets with a visible clock; CBT exam tips explains how to pace yourself.
  5. Set a weekly rhythm. Plan five study days and one review day, and log your scores each week so you can see which topics are slipping before the next UTME and screening cycle.

Original example: What is the next number in the pattern 3, 6, 12, 24, ...? Each term doubles, so the next is 48. This is our own question, not from ABSU.
