University of Ibadan Post-UTME: Requirements and Format
UI post-UTME explained from the university's 2026/2027 notice: O'level and age rules, portal, 2026 dates, what is not published, and how to practise for 2027.

The University of Ibadan is Nigeria's oldest university, and its screening rules are specific about age, O'level results and which certificates it accepts. Below is what UI's own 2026/2027 notice said, with the gaps marked. UI can change any rule next cycle, so use this page to plan, then confirm on the university's portal.
What the screening is
UI's notice calls it a Post-UTME examination and gives an exam window. It does not describe the format in detail: no question count, duration or subject list is given in the notice we read. The notice says individual exam dates are sent to candidates later, which is why a working email address and phone number matter. If you see "UI post-UTME format" posts that list exact subjects, check whether they cite UI itself.
Who could register in 2026
From UI's notice:
- Age: at least 16 years old by 30 September 2026.
- O'level, College of Medicine and Faculty of Pharmacy: five credits at one sitting in relevant subjects.
- O'level, other programmes: candidates presenting two results need at least six credits in relevant subjects.
- Accepted results: WAEC, NECO, Cambridge Advanced Level, NCE, ND, HND and degree certificates from recognised institutions. The notice says IJMB and "JUPEP" (presumably JUPEB) are not accepted for Direct Entry.
- Direct Entry: credentials are sent to the email address given in the notice.
The notice does not state a minimum UTME score or say whether UI must be your first choice. It points to a regulations PDF and a list of matriculating subjects on the admissions site, which contain the UTME combinations and O'level requirements by course. Read those for your own programme. Some websites quote a 200-point UTME minimum, but that figure is not in the notice text we read, so treat it as unconfirmed.
How to apply
The notice gives the portal as admissions.ui.edu.ng. You log in with your JAMB registration number, and the initial password is your surname, as the notice states. Fees are paid through the portal by card or bank transfer, and you should print the payment receipt. The 2026/2027 notice lists a portal access fee of 3,000 naira and a screening fee of 2,000 naira; fees can change, so check the current figures on the portal.
Last cycle's timeline (2026/2027)
| Stage | Dates in UI notice |
|---|---|
| Portal opens | 22 June 2026 |
| Portal closes | 19 July 2026, with no extension stated |
| Post-UTME exam window | 27 to 29 July 2026 |
Legit.ng reported on 2 August 2026 that results were available on the admissions portal. That is a press report. No 2027 dates exist yet; see our post-UTME 2027 dates page.
What UI has not published
The notice gives no aggregate formula, no pass mark and no question breakdown. A formula that circulates for UI is a press description, not a UI rule. Our post-UTME aggregate guide explains how to test a formula against your own scores, and why you should confirm with UI before treating it as final.
A practice plan for UI
- Check your O'level position first. Count your credits against the rule for your faculty. A shortfall is better found in October than in June.
- Build the base (weeks 1 to 3). Work English Language and Mathematics daily, then your two or three course subjects. Use ExamPadi English practice and Mathematics practice.
- Add timed sets (weeks 4 to 6). Practise answering in blocks with a visible clock. Our CBT exam tips help if your test is on a computer.
- Review errors weekly. Keep a list of repeat mistakes and fix the topic, not just the answer.
An original example for the reasoning style: A motorist covers 150 km in 2.5 hours. At the same speed, how long does she need for 210 km? Speed is 150 ÷ 2.5 = 60 km/h, so 210 ÷ 60 = 3.5 hours. This is our own question, not from a UI paper.
For general method, read how to prepare for post-UTME, and compare UNILAG and OAU so that you have a sensible backup. Avoid anyone selling "UI post-UTME questions"; nobody can promise what will appear.
Checklist before you pay anything
- Count your O'level credits against the rule for your faculty before you register; UI's rule differs between the College of Medicine and Faculty of Pharmacy and other programmes.
- Check whether your O'level type is accepted. UI's notice excludes IJMB and "JUPEP" (presumably JUPEB) for Direct Entry.
- Use an email address you check daily, because individual exam dates are sent by email.
- Remember the notice says there is no extension of the registration period.
A six-week schedule
| Week | Focus | Target |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Diagnostic: a 30-question timed set in English Language and Mathematics | Note your time per question and your score |
| 2 | Fix the weakest topics from the diagnostic | One topic a day, 20 questions each |
| 3 | Course subjects | Two timed sets per subject |
| 4 | Mixed blocks | 40 questions in about 40 minutes |
| 5 | Full rehearsal under test rules | No phone, no calculator unless the notice allows it |
| 6 | Light review and logistics | Slip, ID, route, sleep |
UI's notice gives a three-day window for the exam, so keep that week free of travel clashes. Adjust the weeks if your window is shorter, and cut the number of subjects rather than the number of timed sets.
Two more practice questions
Both are original, written for this guide, and not taken from any UI paper.
- Solve for x: 3x − 7 = 2x + 5. Working: Subtract 2x from both sides to get x − 7 = 5, so x = 12.
- Which gas is released when dilute hydrochloric acid reacts with zinc? Working: Hydrogen gas, which burns with a pop.
After each set, write down why you missed a question: a content gap, a careless slip or a time problem. Each needs a different fix.
Practise now
ExamPadi has 46,182 practice questions across JAMB, WAEC, NECO and NABTEB, with a timed CBT mode, free practice and a Pro tier, on Android, iOS, web and Windows. Practise for your Post-UTME before the next notice lands. Confirm every date, fee and score on the university's official portal or website before you act; no guide can promise admission.
