OAU Post-UTME: Requirements, Format and Practice
OAU post-UTME explained: the in-person screening, 200-point UTME rule in 2026, portal, the date change to late September and how to prepare for 2027.

Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife changed its 2026 post-UTME schedule once, so it is a good example of why you should read the latest notice, not an old screenshot. This guide uses OAU's own pages and flags what the university has not published.
What the screening is
OAU's 2026 notice says registration is online and that candidates must present themselves physically for screening on an allotted date and time. It does not describe a test structure, subjects or a pass mark in the pages we read. So the right label is "in-person screening, format details not published". Do not assume it is a computer test, and do not assume it is document-only; wait for your personal schedule on the portal.
Who was eligible in 2026
- Candidates who chose OAU as first choice in the 2026 UTME and scored 200 or above.
- Direct Entry applicants.
- Candidates giving false information or incorrect credentials can be disqualified, and OAU says it does not endorse post-UTME or admission agents.
The notice refers to the portal's admission guidelines for course-level and O'level details. Read those for your own programme at eportal2.oauife.edu.ng/ug/admission-guidelines.
How to apply
Register at eportal2.oauife.edu.ng/ug/admissions. The notice describes three steps: verify your details with your JAMB registration number, email and phone and pay; log in with your JAMB registration number; then complete "My Application", review it and submit. The notice lists a screening fee, excluding portal access charges, and several payment channels. Check current amounts on the portal. Questions go to the address printed in the notice, [email protected].
The 2026 dates, and the change
| Item | Original notice | Later notice |
|---|---|---|
| Registration deadline | late August 2026 | extended to 23 September 2026 |
| Schedule visible on portal | from 24 August | from 16 September 2026 |
| In-person screening | 1 to 5 September 2026 | 25 to 30 September 2026 |
The later dates come from OAU's "new date announced" notice and Legit.ng's report of it. The original notice's registration wording is slightly unclear on the university page, so use the portal for exact deadlines. For 2027 nothing is announced; our post-UTME 2027 dates tracker will be the place to check first.
What is not published
OAU's notices we read give no test subjects and no aggregate formula. Press and blogs describe splits that disagree with each other; one common description gives weight to UTME, the screening and the O'level, but that is not an OAU statement. The aggregate calculator guide explains why you should not trust a formula without a university source. Compare how UNILORIN states its weights, because it is more explicit.
A practice plan for OAU
Because the screening is physical and the content is unpublished, build broad skills and keep your documents ready.
- Documents first. Confirm your JAMB details, O'level uploads and email address match. Mismatches cause avoidable stress.
- Core subjects daily. English Language and Mathematics, then your course subjects. Start with English practice and Mathematics practice.
- Mixed timed sets. Do 40-minute mixed blocks to train focus. Our guide to using past questions explains how to review a block properly.
- Plan the trip. If your screening is in Ile-Ife, arrange transport and a place to sleep early, and keep printed slips as the portal instructs.
An original example question for practice: Simplify (x² − 9) ÷ (x − 3). Factorise the top as (x − 3)(x + 3), cancel, and the answer is x + 3. We wrote this ourselves; it is not from an OAU paper.
See the general post-UTME study plan for a four-week structure, and compare UI's route. No resource can promise admission or predict questions, and "expo" sellers are scams.
Checklist before you pay anything
- Read the latest OAU notice, not an earlier screenshot; the 2026 dates moved from early September to late September.
- Check the admission guidelines page on the OAU e-portal for your course before paying.
- Plan travel to Ile-Ife around your personal schedule, which the portal shows with a date and time slot.
- Ignore anyone offering to book a slot for you; OAU says it does not endorse agents.
A six-week schedule
| Week | Focus | Target |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Find the official notice and note the rules | A one-page summary in your own words |
| 2 | Core skills | Three 25-question sets in English Language and Mathematics |
| 3 | Course subjects | Two sets per subject |
| 4 | Timed mixed blocks | 40 questions in about 40 minutes |
| 5 | Adapt to the announced format | Switch to test, document or interview preparation |
| 6 | Review and logistics | Slip, ID, route, sleep |
OAU's screening is in person, so rehearse travel, ID and timing as well as questions. Adjust the weeks if your window is shorter, and cut the number of subjects rather than the number of timed sets.
Two more practice questions
Both are original, written for this guide, and not taken from any OAU paper.
- The area of a circle is 154 cm². Taking π as 22/7, what is its radius? Working: πr² = 154 gives r² = 154 × 7 ÷ 22 = 49, so r = 7 cm.
- Fill the gap: "She has been working here ___ 2019." (since / for) Working: "Since", because 2019 is a point in time, not a length of time.
After each set, write down why you missed a question: a content gap, a careless slip or a time problem. Each needs a different fix.
