University of Abuja Post-UTME: Requirements, Practice
University of Abuja post-UTME explained: the official screening requirement, the August 2026 portal as reported, 180 UTME baseline, glitches, practice plan.
ExamPadi Editorial · Updated · 5 min read
The University of Abuja states on its own admission page that undergraduate entry needs a UTME score and a post-UTME screening organised by the university. For 2026/2027 specifics, we could find a press report but not a matching notice on the university's website, so this page labels what is reported.
What the screening is
The university's admission page says that applicants need "a Post-UTME screening organized by the University". It does not describe the format, subjects or marking. For 2026/2027, Legit.ng described an online portal for UTME and Direct Entry candidates and reported that applicants experienced technical glitches, including "data is not found" errors, with no public response from the university at the time of the report. Last year's official trail gives a hint of the style: the university's most recent post-UTME notice we found was an invitation to a hybrid pre-admission sensitisation session for 2025/2026 candidates, held on 8 August 2025. That is an information session, not the test itself.
Who was eligible (reported for 2026/2027)
Legit.ng reported:
- UTME: a minimum JAMB score of 180 in the 2026 UTME, plus at least five O'level credits including English Language and Mathematics.
- Direct Entry: a recognised qualification such as an NCE, ND, first degree or HND.
The university's admission page, by contrast, gives no minimum UTME score, and it describes Direct Entry as needing two A-level passes or equivalent plus five O'level credits. The differences show why you should read the live admission page and portal for your course.
About the name
Legit.ng reported that the university had been renamed Yakubu Gowon University, Abuja, though the same article spells the name two ways. The university's admission page still uses "University of Abuja". If the name has changed, official addresses may change too, which is a reason to be careful about look-alike sites. We use the University of Abuja name here because that is what its admission page uses.
How to apply
The press report did not give the portal address, and the only address we could confirm on the university's site was the student portal at portal.uniabuja.edu.ng. Do not pay through any address you cannot trace to the university's own website. If a link arrives by message, go to the website yourself and find the screening link there.
Last cycle's timeline (reported)
| Item | Date reported |

| Portal closes | 26 August 2026 (a blog reports a later extension we could not confirm) |

No 2027 dates are announced; see post-UTME 2027 dates.

A practice plan for the University of Abuja
- Plan for glitches. Register early in any window, take screenshots of each step and keep payment evidence. If an error appears, contact the university through its published channels.
- Check your credits. Five credits including English Language and Mathematics is the reported baseline.
- Core skills. Use English practice and Mathematics practice several times a week, and add your course subjects.
- Attend information sessions. If the university runs a sensitisation session, join it; it is free and it comes from the source.
Original example: A man invests ₦20,000 at 5% simple interest per year. How much interest does he earn in 3 years? 20,000 × 0.05 × 3 = ₦3,000. This question is ours, not from the University of Abuja.
Compare UDUS and LASU for other formats, and read how to prepare for post-UTME. No guide can promise a place.
Checklist before you pay anything
- Reach the screening portal from the university's own website, not from a forwarded link.
- Take a screenshot at every step and keep payment evidence.
- Check the university's current official name and web address before paying.
- Watch for glitches such as data-not-found errors and report them through published channels.
A six-week schedule
| Week | Focus | Target |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Find the official notice and note the rules | A one-page summary in your own words |
| 2 | Core skills | Three 25-question sets in English Language and Mathematics |
| 3 | Course subjects | Two sets per subject |
| 4 | Timed mixed blocks | 40 questions in about 40 minutes |
| 5 | Adapt to the announced format | Switch to test, document or interview preparation |
| 6 | Review and logistics | Slip, ID, route, sleep |
Reports of portal glitches mean you should avoid the last day of any window. Adjust the weeks if your window is shorter, and cut the number of subjects rather than the number of timed sets.
Two more practice questions
Both are original, written for this guide, and not taken from any University of Abuja paper.
- Add the fractions 2/3 and 3/4. Working: The common denominator is 12: 8/12 + 9/12 = 17/12.
- Choose the correct plural of "criterion". Working: "Criteria".
After each set, write down why you missed a question: a content gap, a careless slip or a time problem. Each needs a different fix.
