ExamPadi Editorial · Updated · 6 min read

Kogi State University, Anyigba, now operates as Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), so you will see both names in articles. The university has announced its screening as fully online, and the main details come from press reports because PAAU's website returned a server error when we opened it. This guide notes that clearly.

What the screening is

ULearngo reported for 2025/2026 that PAAU conducts the screening entirely online, to reduce candidates' travel, accommodation and security costs. For 2026/2027, ULearngo reported that the screening mode is online and that the basis for UTME candidates is the UTME score and O'level results. No test questions, subjects or duration are described in these reports. PAAU's news page and a PDF advert exist on paau.edu.ng, but the site was returning a server error when we tried, so we could not read them.

Who can apply

As reported for 2026/2027 (ULearngo):

  • PAAU as first choice, either by selecting it or by changing course or institution to PAAU.
  • A score of at least 150 in the 2026 UTME.
  • The correct UTME subject combination for your proposed course.
  • Five relevant O'level credit passes; candidates awaiting results may apply but must upload results as soon as released.
  • Direct Entry candidates generally need an upper credit in ND, HND or a university diploma, merit in NCE, at least 10 points in A'level results, or a recognised first degree where applicable.

ULearngo's 2025/2026 article reported the same 150 minimum for all undergraduate programmes.

How to apply

Register on the PAAU screening portal. The 2025/2026 article named eportal.paau.edu.ng/ug/candidate, and the 2026/2027 article named portal.paau.edu.ng/pd_dip/utme_dashboard. The reported fee for both cycles was 2,000 naira. Candidates who changed institution or course via JAMB may not see their records on the portal for about a week, according to the 2026/2027 report, which advised checking again from 29 June 2026 and using the portal's chat box if the problem persists. Upload your O'level results on JAMB CAPS promptly.

How your score is worked out

The 2026/2027 report says screening is based on the UTME score and O'level results, without stating weights, and we found no official split. Our aggregate calculator guide shows how such a split works if PAAU confirms one.

What is not published

Not verified in sources we could read: the aggregate weights, departmental cut-offs, any test element and the official notice text, since paau.edu.ng was down when we tried.

A note on names

The university in Anyigba now carries the name Prince Abubakar Audu University, and many students, schools and articles still use the old name Kogi State University. When you search for the portal, use the PAAU name and the university's own domain, and ignore look-alike sites that use the old name to sell forms or past questions.

Before you pay or submit

Scam sites copy university notices every admission season, so check these before you part with money for PAAU:

  • Type the portal address yourself or follow the link from the university's own website; do not use links sent on WhatsApp or social media.
  • Confirm the fee on the portal screen and keep the payment receipt and your application slip.
  • Compare the name on your JAMB profile, O'level result and birth documents letter by letter, because mismatches cause avoidable problems.
  • Never pay anyone who promises PAAU admission, leaked questions or "expo"; they are scams and malpractice can cost you your place.

A practice plan for PAAU

  1. Make the UTME score count. PAAU's reported basis is the UTME score and O'level results, so those two inputs are what you can improve. Your UTME score is the part of the process you can still influence, so spend most of your time on the four UTME subjects. Our guide to scoring 300 in JAMB is a good place to start.
  2. Keep your O'level record clean. Check that your name, date of birth and subjects match across your JAMB profile, result slips and birth documents. PAAU warned against double admission or falsified results, which can lead to disqualification, so keep your records genuine and consistent.
  3. Sharpen English and Mathematics every day. Short sessions on English Language practice and Mathematics practice help with the UTME and with any aptitude test a university adds later.
  4. Run timed blocks. In the last month before the UTME, practise in 40-question timed sets with a visible clock; CBT exam tips explains how to pace yourself.
  5. Set a weekly rhythm. Plan five study days and one review day, and log your scores each week so you can see which topics are slipping before the next UTME and screening cycle.

Original example: Solve for y: 4y - 7 = 21. 4y = 28, so y = 7. This is our own question, not from PAAU.
