IMSU Post-UTME: Requirements, Format and Practice

IMSU post-UTME explained: the reported 160 UTME mark, 2,000 naira fee, May to June 2026 registration, screening slips and unpublished details.

Imo State University, Owerri, is a school where the screening appears to involve turning up on a set date with your slips. The details come mostly from press reports of the registrar's notices, because the IMSU admissions page we could open is a general template. Here is what was reported and what you must still confirm.

What the screening is

Reports of the 2026/2027 notice say each candidate's screening date and time would be communicated later through the official portal, and that your acknowledgement slip is needed "at the screening venue". For 2025/2026, MySchoolNews carried a screening schedule for 16 to 20 September 2025, and candidates were told to print their slips from the portal from 1 September 2025. That points to a scheduled screening session rather than a purely online check, but none of the reports describe the content, so we cannot say whether it is a CBT paper, an interview or document verification.

Who can apply

As reported for 2026/2027 (ULearngo, quoting a notice signed by the Acting Registrar):

  • IMSU chosen as first choice, with a score of at least 160 in the 2026 UTME.
  • Candidates who did not choose IMSU first but met the cut-off could change their first-choice institution before the application closed.
  • Direct Entry candidates with OND, HND, a first degree, A'level or equivalent qualifications in relevant disciplines.
  • All candidates had to upload qualifying results to JAMB; candidates awaiting O'level results were told to upload them as soon as released.

One aggregator suggested departmental cut-offs between 180 and 200, but we could not verify that against an IMSU notice.

How to apply

Use the IMSU application portal. The reported steps were: select the 2026/2027 Post-UTME/Direct Entry application, enter your JAMB registration number to check eligibility, pay the 2,000 naira fee using your JAMB number as the invoice number, wait 24 hours, then return to complete the application form and print your acknowledgement slip. For 2025/2026, results were reported on the portal at imsuonline.edu.ng under Putme_DE, checked with the JAMB registration number; the site returned a bandwidth error when we tried it.

How your score is worked out

No aggregate formula for the screening was stated in the sources we could read. Do not assume a 50/50 or 70/30 split. When IMSU publishes weights, our aggregate calculator guide shows how to apply them.

What is not published

Not published in sources we could verify: the screening format and content, venue, the aggregate formula, and official departmental cut-offs. The IMSU admissions page we opened listed only generic text and a placeholder phone number, so we did not use it as a source.

Before you pay or submit

Scam sites copy university notices every admission season, so check these before you part with money for IMSU:

  • Type the portal address yourself or follow the link from the university's own website; do not use links sent on WhatsApp or social media.
  • Confirm the fee on the portal screen and keep the payment receipt and your application slip.
  • Compare the name on your JAMB profile, O'level result and birth documents letter by letter, because mismatches cause avoidable problems.
  • Never pay anyone who promises IMSU admission, leaked questions or "expo"; they are scams and malpractice can cost you your place.

A practice plan for IMSU

  1. Learn the test mode first. Because IMSU's reports mention a screening venue and slip, prepare as if you may sit an on-site screening, and keep your English and Mathematics sharp. Do your practice on a computer wherever you can, with a mouse and keyboard, so the real screen does not slow you down.
  2. Drill English and Mathematics daily. Use English Language practice and Mathematics practice in short, timed sets, then move to the subjects tied to your course.
  3. Practise under the clock. Set a timer for each block and finish it; CBT exam tips covers pacing, flagging and review habits.
  4. Check your logistics early. Print your acknowledgement slip, bring your JAMB slip, and check the venue and time on the portal before the day, because IMSU said these would be communicated to candidates.
  5. Set a weekly rhythm. Plan five study days and one review day, and log your scores each week so you can see which topics are slipping before the next UTME and screening cycle.

Original example: Which sentence is correct? (a) Each of the girls have a book. (b) Each of the girls has a book. (b), because "each" is singular, so it takes "has". This is our own question, not from IMSU.
