Covenant University Post-UTME: Requirements, Format and Practice

Covenant University post-UTME explained: the CUSAS aptitude screening, reported online format and device rules, admission requirements and unpublished details.

ExamPadi Editorial · Updated · 6 min read

Covenant University does not call its screening a post-UTME. It uses the Covenant University Scholastic Aptitude Screening, or CUSAS, and it is one of the few schools in this group that clearly runs a scored aptitude test. It is also private, so the application and tuition rules differ from state and federal schools.

What the screening is

Education sites describe CUSAS as an aptitude test scored alongside your JAMB score. ULearngo reported that the final 2025/2026 CUSAS was held online on Friday 22 August 2025, and that candidates needed a laptop or desktop with stable internet and the Zoom application installed, with mobile phones and MacBooks not permitted. Other reports said Covenant has run CUSAS on campus or online depending on the year. The subjects, number of questions and duration were not stated in any source we could read, so ignore any list of Covenant CUSAS questions that does not cite Covenant.

Who can apply

What Covenant's admission page says, as reported by Legit.ng for 2026/2027:

  • Nigerian applicants need a valid O'level result from WAEC or NECO.
  • IGCSE holders are also eligible if their results are officially converted to the Nigerian grading system.
  • All Nigerian applicants must have sat the current year's UTME (2026).
  • Applicants with foreign certificates must complete an official evaluation before the admission screening exercise concludes; they are classed as international applicants regardless of nationality.
  • African and international applicants pay application and tuition fees in US dollars.

One 2025/2026 guide listed a 180 UTME minimum, but we could not confirm a figure against a Covenant page, so check the admission pages and the undergraduate prospectus for your course.

How to apply

Apply on the Covenant admissions portal at admissions.covenantuniversity.edu.ng (named in ULearngo's report). Complete the online application, upload the required documents and book your preferred CUSAS slot; for the 2025/2026 final screening this had to be done by 20 August 2025 at 11:59 pm, with no extensions. Technical problems were not accepted as grounds to reschedule, so test your device and connection beforehand.

How your score is worked out

Reports say the CUSAS score is combined with your JAMB score to rank candidates, but no weights were given in what we read. Covenant's own website was behind a browser check when we tried it, so we could not look for a formula there. Use our aggregate calculator guide for the general method.

What is not published

Not published in sources we could verify: CUSAS subjects, question count, duration, the weighting of CUSAS against UTME, and the 2026/2027 dates. Also unverified is any claim that CUSAS reuses past questions.

Before you pay or submit

Scam sites copy university notices every admission season, so check these before you part with money for Covenant University:

  • Type the portal address yourself or follow the link from the university's own website; do not use links sent on WhatsApp or social media.
  • Confirm the fee on the portal screen and keep the payment receipt and your application slip.
  • Compare the name on your JAMB profile, O'level result and birth documents letter by letter, because mismatches cause avoidable problems.
  • Never pay anyone who promises Covenant University admission, leaked questions or "expo"; they are scams and malpractice can cost you your place.

A practice plan for Covenant University

  1. Learn the test mode first. CUSAS is described as a scholastic aptitude test, so practise reading comprehension, numeracy and logical reasoning rather than memorising facts. Do your practice on a computer wherever you can, with a mouse and keyboard, so the real screen does not slow you down.
  2. Drill English and Mathematics daily. Use English Language practice and Mathematics practice in short, timed sets, then move to the subjects tied to your course.
  3. Practise under the clock. Set a timer for each block and finish it; CBT exam tips covers pacing, flagging and review habits.
  4. Check your logistics early. Test your laptop or desktop, internet connection, backup power and the Zoom application days before your slot; Covenant reportedly does not reschedule for technical faults.
  5. Set a weekly rhythm. Plan five study days and one review day, and log your scores each week so you can see which topics are slipping before the next UTME and screening cycle.

Original example: If all engineers in a team are graduates, and Ada is in the team but is not a graduate, what follows? Ada cannot be an engineer, because every engineer in the team is a graduate. This is our own question, not from Covenant University.
