ABU Zaria Post-UTME: Requirements, Format and Practice

ABU Zaria post-UTME explained: the 6 July 2026 registration start, official portal, reported 180 cut-off, documents to bring, unpublished details and prep plan.

ExamPadi Editorial · Updated · 6 min read

Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria publishes much of its screening information as notice images on its website, which means search engines and AI summaries often miss the details. This page tells you what we could verify, what only blogs report, and what to look for in the official notices yourself.

What the screening is

ABU's website describes a "2026 UTME/DE Screening Exercise" and a "PUTME" forms portal. The pages we could read as text do not state whether the screening is a written test, a computer-based test or a document check, and the main notices are embedded as images. We could not confirm from a text notice whether candidates must attend in person, so read the original notice images and the portal for the venue, dates and documents.

Who was eligible in 2026

ABU's page that we could read says only that registration started on Monday 6 July 2026. For eligibility, a third-party blog reports:

  • UTME and Direct Entry candidates with ABU as first choice.
  • A UTME cut-off of 180 (reported by AbsTechConnect on 3 July 2026; not confirmed in an ABU text notice we could read).
  • Programme-specific O'level and UTME subject requirements, which ABU publishes in a registrar's admission requirements document on the portal.

Because the cut-off is only reported, do not rely on it. Check your department's requirement in the ABU admission requirements PDF and the official notice image.

How to apply

Use ABU's eForms portal at portal.abu.edu.ng/forms and its PUTME page. Do not use links that arrive on WhatsApp or from agents. One blog (AbsTechConnect, 3 July 2026) reported a ₦2,000 form fee; we could not find it in an ABU text notice, so confirm the fee on the portal. We found no source for a document list, so follow the checklist on your screening slip and the ABU notice images. A sensible folder to have ready is your JAMB result slip, O'level results, passport photographs and proof of payment.

Last cycle's timeline

ItemWhat we found
Registration start6 July 2026 (ABU website)
Update noticePosted on the ABU site after the start; the content is an image we could not read as text
Screening datesNot available to us in text form; candidates get dates from the portal

Some blogs list August dates for ABU registration that match last year's cycle, so ignore any date that you cannot find on abu.edu.ng. No 2027 dates are announced; see post-UTME 2027 dates.

What is not published (that we could find)

We could not find an ABU statement of an aggregate formula, test subjects or the question count in text form. The aggregate guide explains how to evaluate a formula, but you will need ABU's own figures for yours. If a notice image states the format, plan to that, and not to a blog's description.

A practice plan for ABU

  1. Collect your documents. Keep your JAMB result slip, O'level results, passport photographs and payment evidence in one folder, and add whatever the official notice lists.
  2. Read the notice images. Zoom into the images on abu.edu.ng; note dates, venue and instructions. Screenshot them for offline use.
  3. Build core skills. Spend the first three weeks on English Language, Mathematics and your course subjects. Use English practice and Mathematics practice.
  4. Practise under time pressure. Do mixed 30-question blocks twice a week, then review mistakes using the method in how to use past questions.
  5. Plan the journey. Zaria is far from many applicants, so book transport and accommodation early once your date is known.

An original example: If 5 pencils cost ₦600, how much do 8 pencils cost? One pencil costs ₦120, so 8 cost ₦960. This is our own question, not from ABU.

Compare other northern schools, such as BUK, which publishes a detailed bulletin, and UNIJOS. For general method, see how to prepare for post-UTME. No guide can promise admission, and "expo" is a scam.

Checklist before you pay anything

  • Zoom into the notice images on abu.edu.ng and save screenshots; the details sit in the images.
  • Gather the usual documents (passport photographs, JAMB result printout, O'level results, payment evidence), then confirm the exact list against the ABU notice.
  • Ignore any registration date that you cannot find on abu.edu.ng.
  • Book transport and a place to stay once your date is known; Zaria is far from many applicants.

A six-week schedule

WeekFocusTarget
1Find the official notice and note the rulesA one-page summary in your own words
2Core skillsThree 25-question sets in English Language and Mathematics
3Course subjectsTwo sets per subject
4Timed mixed blocks40 questions in about 40 minutes
5Adapt to the announced formatSwitch to test, document or interview preparation
6Review and logisticsSlip, ID, route, sleep

ABU's published text is thin, so the key habit is reading the notice images yourself. Adjust the weeks if your window is shorter, and cut the number of subjects rather than the number of timed sets.

Two more practice questions

Both are original, written for this guide, and not taken from any ABU paper.

  1. Find the sum of the first 10 positive even numbers. Working: 2 + 4 + ... + 20 = 2 × (1 + 2 + ... + 10) = 2 × 55 = 110.
  2. Which word is a synonym of "scarce": (A) abundant (B) rare (C) common (D) plentiful? Working: (B) rare.

After each set, write down why you missed a question: a content gap, a careless slip or a time problem. Each needs a different fix.

Practise now

ExamPadi has 46,182 practice questions across JAMB, WAEC, NECO and NABTEB, with timed CBT mode, free daily practice and a Pro tier, on Android, iOS, web and Windows. Practise for your Post-UTME while you wait for ABU's next notice. Confirm every date, fee and score on the university's official portal or website before you act; no guide can promise admission.
