BECE 2027 Timetable (Nigeria): What Is Announced
NECO has not announced the 2027 BECE timetable. See how the 2026 BECE ran, the dates and numbers reported, and where parents and schools should check.

The Basic Education Certificate Examination, or BECE, is the exam taken at the end of junior secondary school (JSS3) in Nigeria. NECO conducts the national BECE.
If you are searching for the BECE 2027 timetable for Nigeria, here is the plain position: it has not been announced. We found no 2027 BECE timetable on NECO's site, and the proposed 2027 national calendar published in October 2026 covers the UTME, NECO SSCE, WAEC WASSCE, NABTEB and NBAIS, but not the BECE.

How the 2026 BECE ran
The most recent BECE gives you a realistic picture of timing, though it does not tell you the 2027 dates.
| Item | 2026 BECE (reported) |
|---|---|
| Exam dates | 20 to 30 April 2026 |
| Candidates registered | 186,291 |
| Subjects | 12 |
| Coverage | All 36 states, the FCT and five foreign countries |
| Results | Released after the BECE Award Committee meeting at NECO headquarters, Minna |
| Resit | 22 and 23 July 2026, for Mathematics and English Studies only |
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the resit was meant for candidates with conditional deficiencies in Mathematics, English Studies or both. Passing it gives them the certification needed for admission and placement into SS1 without repeating a year. The results announcement was made by NECO's acting Director of Information and Public Relations in a statement issued on a Thursday, following the award meeting.
If NECO follows the same shape in 2027, expect an April-style sitting, with results in about late June (the 2026 results were announced in June). That is a pattern from one year, not a promise, and the date could shift.
Why the 2027 calendar matters even without BECE dates
The proposed 2027 schedule puts the NECO SSCE Internal from 1 April to 14 May 2027. That overlaps the late-April slot the BECE used in 2026, so NECO will be managing a busy period. Whether the BECE moves, we do not know and we have no evidence either way. Treat this as a reason to watch for the notice, not as a prediction.
You can see how the other exams line up in the 2027 Nigerian exam calendar and the NECO 2027 timetable.
Where to get the official BECE timetable
- neco.gov.ng is NECO's official site. Look for the BECE registration notice and the timetable.
- Your child's school. Schools register candidates and receive the official materials.
Always read the notice itself rather than a forwarded summary.
Practical tips for parents and schools
- Ask the school now whether it has been told when registration opens, rather than waiting for the last week.
- Check the child's details. Names and dates of birth on registration must match the child's records, because errors are painful to fix later.
- Plan for Mathematics and English first. The 2026 resit existed specifically for these two subjects, which shows how much weight they carry for placement into SS1.
- Do not pay agents or "centres" that promise to arrange results. Pay only through official channels.
For more on how to help a candidate, our guide for parents on WAEC covers many of the same habits, and the principle is similar at JSS level: steady practice beats last-minute cramming.
How to use the months you have
From 29 October 2026, there are roughly six months to an April-style sitting. That is a long time for a JSS3 student to cover the syllabus once and revise. A simple weekly rhythm works well: three short practice sessions on weekdays, one longer review session at the weekend and one rest day.
Understanding what the BECE leads to
The BECE is the exit exam for junior secondary school. For many families the result matters because it supports placement into senior secondary school (SS1). The 2026 resit existed precisely to let candidates with weakness in Mathematics or English Studies obtain the certification needed for placement without repeating a class, according to NAN's report. That is a useful clue about priorities: these two subjects carry weight at the next step.
A gentle study routine for JSS3
If your child will sit the BECE in 2027, a simple routine helps more than a heavy schedule:
| Day | Activity |
|---|---|
| Monday and Wednesday | Mathematics: 30 to 40 minutes of practice, then check the answers |
| Tuesday and Thursday | English Studies: reading, then a short writing task |
| Friday | One other subject from the school timetable |
| Saturday | A longer review of the week's mistakes |
| Sunday | Rest |
Keep sessions short and regular. Praise effort, not only marks, and avoid comparing your child with others.
What to avoid
- Paying for "special centres" or leaked papers. They do not work and can cost a child their result.
- Last-minute cramming. Six months is plenty of time for steady revision.
- Relying on rumours about dates. Wait for NECO and your school.
ExamPadi's question bank covers JAMB, WAEC, NECO and NABTEB at senior secondary level, 46,182 practice questions in all, so it is aimed at SS students rather than JSS3 candidates. If your child is moving up to SS1, the NECO practice pages are a good place to begin once the BECE results are out. Free practice is available, with a Pro tier, on Android, iOS, web and Windows.
