How to Pass JAMB Christian Religious Studies in 2027
How to pass JAMB Christian Religious Studies in 2027: read the Bible by theme, link covenants, prophets and Gospels, and practise recall with sample questions.
ExamPadi Editorial · Updated · 7 min read
Christian Religious Studies looks like the easiest subject on the list, and that is where the danger lies. Many candidates who have grown up in church read the Bible casually and find the exam asking things they never noticed: which covenant sign belongs to which covenant, which prophet spoke in which reign, which of Paul's letters addresses which problem. The marks go to students who read the Bible as a connected story and with an examiner's eye.
This guide is for the 2027 cycle. It shows a way to study CRK by theme so the facts connect.
The format
CRK is a chosen subject, and chosen subjects carry 40 questions each in the UTME CBT. Whether a course accepts CRK depends on the faculty and the university, so check the admission requirements, and use our subject combination guide to see how. Confirm the time limit and the current syllabus at jamb.gov.ng.
The shape of the syllabus
The main topics that ExamPadi uses to organise CRK practice are: Themes from Genesis, the Mosaic Covenant, the Davidic Covenant, the Prophets, the Synoptic Gospels, the Acts of the Apostles, the Pauline Letters, and Christian Ethics in Modern Society. You can see how they divide into four movements:
| Movement | Topics | What to track |
|---|---|---|
| Beginnings and covenants | Genesis, Mosaic Covenant, Davidic Covenant | God's promises and human response |
| The prophets | Prophets of Israel and Judah | Message, time, audience, consequence |
| The New Testament | Synoptic Gospels, Acts, Pauline Letters | Jesus' life and teaching, the early Church, letters to Christians |
| Application | Christian ethics | Principles applied to modern issues |
Study them in that order, because later parts assume the earlier ones.
Study by theme, not by chapter
Instead of reading the Bible straight through, make a theme sheet for each topic. For covenants, use four columns: who made it, what God promised, what was required, and what sign accompanied it. Fill in the covenant with Abraham, the Mosaic covenant and the Davidic covenant. Seeing them side by side makes the questions easy.
Here is an original example question:
The sign of the covenant between God and Abraham was: circumcision. A wrong option might give the rainbow, which is connected to Noah. Many errors in CRK come from mixing up neighbours like these.
For the prophets, make a profile for each one:
- Name and approximate period (before the exile, during, after).
- Kingdom addressed (Israel or Judah).
- Core message (for example, social justice, repentance, hope).
- A key event or confrontation.
An original recall question: Which prophet confronted King Ahab over the seizure of Naboth's vineyard? The answer is Elijah. Remember the story rather than the line, because the question will paraphrase.
The Gospels: find the pattern
The Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke) share much material. Study the life of Jesus as a sequence: birth and early life, baptism and temptation, Galilean ministry, teachings and parables, miracles, journey to Jerusalem, passion, resurrection. For each stage, note which events and teachings belong there.
Parables are a reliable source of questions. For each parable you learn, write three lines: the main characters, the point of the story, and the lesson. Do the same for miracles, grouping them by kind (healing, nature, raising the dead).
Also learn the calling of the disciples, the Sermon on the Mount (the Beatitudes and teaching on prayer, giving and forgiveness), and the major teachings about the kingdom of God.
Acts and the Pauline letters
Acts tells the early Church's story. Track the movement: Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, the wider world. Know the key events: Pentecost, the choosing of the seven, Stephen's martyrdom, Paul's conversion, the missionary journeys. For the Pauline letters, make a short table:
| Letter | Main concern |
|---|---|
| Romans | Faith, grace and righteousness |
| 1 Corinthians | Divisions, order in worship, spiritual gifts |
| Galatians | Freedom from the law, faith over works |
| Ephesians | Unity of the Church |
Keep the table limited to the letters named in the official syllabus. Check jamb.gov.ng, because the exact set of epistles can differ by syllabus edition.
Christian ethics in modern society
This section applies principles to current questions: honesty, justice, the use of money, work, family life, leadership, and civic duty. Learn the principle first (for example, the command to love one's neighbour) and then the application. In an objective exam, the best option is generally the one that matches a clearly Christian principle, not a personal opinion.
Habits that raise your score
- Read actively. After each passage, close the Bible and say the main point in one sentence.
- Keep a "who, where, why" notebook. For each important person or event, write three words.
- Test neighbours. When two things are similar (two covenants, two kings, two prophets), write the difference.
- Read the question stem carefully. Words like "according to", "except" and "first" change the answer.
- Practise on screen. The UTME is computer-based, so get used to reading names and options on a screen, and to ruling out the two options you know are wrong before choosing between the rest.
Mistakes to avoid
- Mixing up the covenants and their signs.
- Confusing the kingdom of Israel with Judah.
- Mixing up details between the Gospel accounts.
- Answering from a sermon you remember rather than from the text.
- Skipping Christian ethics because "it is common sense".

How many questions are in JAMB Christian Religious Studies?
It is a chosen subject, and each chosen subject carries 40 questions in the computer-based UTME. Check jamb.gov.ng for the current format and time limit.
Do I need to memorise Bible verses?
You do not need long passages by heart, but you must know who said or did what, where, and why. Questions test accurate recall of events, people and teachings.
Which Bible version should I use?
Use the translation your teacher and the JAMB syllabus recommend, and read the same one throughout so that names and wording stay familiar.
Is CRK allowed for my course?
It depends on the course and the university. Confirm in the official JAMB brochure and the university's admission requirements before you register it.
