How to Check NECO Result with a Token (Official Steps)
How to check your NECO SSCE result on the official portal using a token and registration number, what the token is, and how to avoid copycat sites.
ExamPadi Editorial · Updated · 7 min read
NECO results follow a slightly different pattern from WAEC. Instead of a scratch card, you buy a token online and use it with your registration number. This guide explains the steps, what the token is, and how to avoid fake sites. We do not run a NECO checker, so the instructions point to NECO's own channels.
The short version
- Go to NECO's official results portal from neco.gov.ng.
- Choose the exam year.
- Select the exam type, such as SSCE Internal (June/July) or SSCE External.
- Enter your registration number.
- Enter your token.
- Submit, then save or print the result page.
Which portal address is right?
Different guides name the portal as either results.neco.gov.ng or result.neco.gov.ng. We could not confirm from NECO's own pages which spelling is current. The safest approach is to start at neco.gov.ng and follow the results link from there, instead of typing a token into an address you found in a message or a post. Copycat sites with similar names exist, and some are scams.
What is the token?
The token is a code that unlocks your result:
- Reports describe it as 12 digits and case sensitive.
- It can be used up to five times, but only for one candidate's registration number.
- It is purchased through the official portal or a trusted payment route.
- Price reports vary, from about N1,000 to N2,300 once charges are added. Check the price on the official portal before you pay.
Keep your token private. Anyone with it can view your result a few times, and you do not want to waste your five uses on someone else.
SSCE Internal and SSCE External
NECO runs two main SSCE examinations. The SSCE Internal is for school candidates. The SSCE External is for private candidates. Pick the option that matches how you registered, or the portal will not find your result.
If you wrote the Internal exam and want your certificate or other documents, NECO's processes for those are separate from checking a result. Your school's exam officer can tell you which steps apply.
The 2026 release
News agencies reported that NECO's Registrar announced the 2026 SSCE Internal results on 24 September 2026 at a press conference in Minna, Niger State. Outlets reported different figures for the pass rate, so for statistics, see our NECO 2026 statistics page rather than this guide. This guide is about how to look up your own result.
Results, verification and employers
Checking your own result is different from verifying it for another party. Schools, employers and universities confirm a NECO result through NECO's own verification route, not by using your token. If a school asks for proof of your result, use the instructions that the school gives, or ask NECO through its official channels.
Typical problems and fixes
- Invalid token message. Check that you entered all characters, mind uppercase and lowercase, and confirm the token was not already used up.
- Registration number not found. Check your year, exam type and number. Internal and External candidates have different records.
- Result not yet available. Wait for NECO's announcement before buying a token.
- Missing or withheld subject. Contact your school or NECO through official channels. Do not pay anybody who claims they can change or release a grade.
- Wrong site. If the site asks for payment details on a page that does not look like NECO's official site, stop and close it.
Fake offers to avoid
During result season, social media fills with promises: "I can upgrade your grade", "pay for the real result", "get the leaked answers". All of these are scams. NECO results come from NECO, nobody else. If you are tempted by "expo", read why WAEC expo is fake, which applies equally to NECO offers.
After your result
Learn what your grades mean in our NECO grading system guide, and compare the scale with the WAEC grading system. Then read what to do after WAEC, because the steps for admission and rewriting apply to NECO candidates as well.
A result-day checklist
Preparation makes result day smoother:
- Keep your registration number, exam year and exam type written down.
- Buy your token only through the official route linked from neco.gov.ng.
- Do not share the token with friends, because it is meant for one candidate's result.
- Use a steady connection, then save or print the result as soon as it opens.
- If something looks wrong, take a screenshot of the message and contact your school's exam officer or NECO through its official channels.
If you are waiting for a particular subject to appear, remember that some results can take longer to be fully available. Staying calm and checking only on the official portal will protect you from most of the scams around result time.
If you wrote more than one NECO sitting in different years, keep each year's registration number and token details separate and labelled. Mixing them up is a common reason for an "invalid" message, and it is easy to avoid with a tidy note on your phone or in a notebook.
Keep practising
If you are rewriting NECO subjects or preparing for the next sitting, the most useful thing is regular practice on real past questions. ExamPadi has 46,182 practice questions across JAMB, WAEC, NECO and NABTEB, with free daily practice and a Pro tier for full timed mocks. Open the NECO hub, choose a subject and begin with a short set. We cannot promise any grade, but steady practice is the surest path to improvement.
