How to Check JAMB Admission Status on CAPS
How to check your JAMB admission status on the official portal, accept or reject an offer on CAPS, fix common problems, and avoid fake admission-list sellers.

After the UTME and your school's screening comes the waiting. Admission offers reach candidates through JAMB's Central Admissions Processing System, known as CAPS, and the way you check and respond to them matters. A wrong click can cost you a place. This guide explains the official steps, the pitfalls, and how to keep calm while you wait.
What CAPS is
CAPS is the system through which institutions upload admission decisions and candidates view and respond to them. For the 2026 cycle, reports of the JAMB policy meeting say admissions made outside CAPS will not be recognised. In plain terms: if a school offers you a place by letter or message but it does not appear on CAPS, do not treat it as complete. Ask the school to process it correctly.
How to check your admission status
Step names can change, but the steps reported for 2026 are:
- Open efacility.jamb.gov.ng, JAMB's candidate portal, in your browser. Type the address yourself or use the link from jamb.gov.ng.
- Log in with the details you used at registration.
- Choose Check Admission Status from the dashboard.
- Select the exam year and enter your registration number if asked.
- Submit to see whether you are admitted, awaiting a decision or not admitted.
Some guides point to a separate CAPS address for institutions. Candidates normally use the e-Facility route. Whichever page you use, make sure it is on a JAMB domain.
If the page shows only a welcome screen on your phone, one guide suggests switching your browser to "desktop site" mode.
If you have an offer
When an institution has offered you a place, the CAPS page shows Accept and Reject options. If there is no offer, the buttons remain inactive. Reports say:
- You can accept once.
- You should think carefully before rejecting, as sources disagree on whether another offer follows.
- You can also respond by SMS: send ACCEPT or REJECT to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your profile. Check the current method on JAMB's channels before using it.
Before you accept, confirm the course, school and mode of study are what you wanted. Also check the school's own acceptance steps, because accepting on CAPS and paying school fees or registering with the school are separate things.
Common problems
- "Not admitted" or "awaiting". Admissions roll in batches, and schools release lists at different times. Check again later and keep track of the school's notices.
- No offer after screening. Compare your aggregate with the course's cut-off. Our post-UTME aggregate calculator guide shows how aggregates are built.
- Wrong course or school on file. You may need a change of course or institution. See JAMB change of course.
- Login failure. Reset your password only through the official portal.
- Offer outside CAPS. Ask the institution to upload it.
Fakes and scams to avoid
Admission season brings fraud. Be careful with:
- "Admission list" sellers who promise a name on the list for a fee. Admission follows the school's merit process and CAPS, not payments to agents.
- Fake admission letters asking for large "acceptance" fees to a personal account. Verify instructions with the school's official website and portals.
- Copycat portals asking for your login. Use only JAMB's domains.
- Anyone asking for your password or profile code.
Deadlines
JAMB sets deadlines for institutions and candidates to complete admissions and respond to offers. We found a report of a deadline for candidates with pending admissions, but sources conflict and some dates have already passed, so we do not repeat them. Check jamb.gov.ng for the current dates.
While you wait
Waiting is the hardest part, but you can use the time:
- Keep your documents ready: O'level results, birth certificate and passport photographs.
- Follow your target school's official notices.
- Keep studying. If you plan to retake or write another screening, practice does not stop.
- Read what to do while waiting for JAMB for more ideas.
If you still need your result details, see how to check your JAMB result. To understand how scores relate to admission, read the JAMB score you need for admission.
What to do after you accept an offer
Accepting on CAPS is one step in a longer process. Next, follow the school's own instructions for acceptance, payment and registration, using only the school's official website and portals. Keep every receipt, note every deadline, and prepare the documents the school asks for, such as O'level results, birth certificate and passport photographs. Be careful with anyone who asks you to pay into a personal account. If an instruction looks unusual, call or visit the school's admissions office through its published contacts before paying. Admission is a process, and verifying each step protects you.
A last practical point: screenshot every status page you see, with the date visible. If a dispute ever arises with a school or with JAMB, a dated record of what the portal showed can help your case. Also tell a parent or guardian where your login details are kept, in case you cannot access the portal yourself on a key day.
Stay sharp
Whether you are waiting for an offer, preparing a retake or getting ready for the next stage of screening, steady practice keeps you ready. ExamPadi has 46,182 practice questions across JAMB, WAEC, NECO and NABTEB, with free daily practice and a Pro tier for full timed mocks. Open the JAMB practice hub and keep your skills fresh. No one can promise you an offer, but staying prepared gives you options.
