WASSCE 2027 Timetable (Ghana): Dates Reported So Far

The GES calendar reportedly puts the 2027 WASSCE from 6 April, with the end date reported as 18 or 28 June. WAEC Ghana has not listed a 2027 timetable yet.

If you are in SHS 3, the question on every corridor is: when exactly do we start? Here is the position as of 29 October 2026. There is a reported window from the Ghana Education Service, but WAEC Ghana has not listed a 2027 timetable on its website, and two news outlets disagree on the end date.

What is reported and what is not

ItemStatus
2027 WASSCE startReported from the GES calendar: Tuesday 6 April 2027
2027 WASSCE endReported as 18 June 2027 (Graphic Online) or 28 June 2027 (MyJoyOnline)
WAEC paper-by-paper timetableNot listed on WAEC Ghana's timetable page when we checked
Final-year SHS academic yearReported to end on 18 June 2027
RegistrationWAEC's school-candidate page says registration runs about six weeks between September and November

Both outlets attributed the dates to the Ghana Education Service, which issued its 2026/27 academic calendar for senior high and technical schools on 1 June 2026. MyJoyOnline reported that the 2027 WASSCE is expected to run from 6 April to 28 June, while Graphic Online reported 6 April to 18 June, the same date it gave for final-year students to complete their academic year.

Under the calendar as reported, single-track final-year students return on 1 February 2027 and stay in school until 18 June 2027. Transitional-school final-year students have a first semester from 18 September to 18 December 2026, a Christmas break, and a second semester from 5 January to 18 June 2027.

Why you should treat this as provisional

First, a school calendar is not an examination timetable. WAEC Ghana publishes the subject-by-subject timetable, and its timetable page lists WASSCE school and private timetables for 2026, 2025, 2024 and 2022, but no 2027 timetable at the time of our check.

Second, the reporting does not agree on the end date, and WAEC's own school-candidates page says the school examination is held in May and June. A start on 6 April would be earlier than that general description, which is another reason to wait for WAEC.

Third, WAEC posted a notice on its homepage dated 4 September 2026 titled "WASSCE SC 2027 Eligibility". We could only see the title, so read the full notice on waecgh.org to check the eligibility rules for your own candidacy, and ask your head teacher about registration.

A look back: the 2026 WASSCE

MyJoyOnline reported that the 2026 WASSCE for school candidates began on Wednesday 13 May 2026 with Oral English, with 509,862 candidates expected nationwide (the figure later reported as final was 512,862). The same report noted that Oral English was written at the same time across WAEC member countries that year, and that Ghana had returned to the traditional May to June schedule after the pandemic-era changes.

That matters for 2027 because it shows WAEC and the GES are working to a regional calendar. It is another reason to keep checking the official timetable.

What to do while you wait

Plan backwards from early April. Even if WAEC shifts the start by some days, you have about five months. Draw a plan that finishes content revision by February and leaves March for timed practice.

Prioritise the four core subjects. According to WAEC Ghana, all school candidates take English Language, Integrated Science, Mathematics (Core) and Social Studies, plus three or four electives from their programme. Our tips for Core Mathematics, English and Integrated Science will help you plan. Then read the WASSCE grading system explainer to see what grades you need.

Build a realistic timetable. Use our guide to making a reading timetable and put your weakest core subject early in the day.

Practise the exam skills, not just the content. Timed papers expose weaknesses that notes will not. Read how to use past questions properly.

Do not fall for leaked-paper promises. Whatever you hear online, so-called "expo" is cheating, and the people selling it are often scammers. Put your energy into revision. Our guide on how to avoid exam malpractice explains why.

Registration and eligibility: what we know

WAEC Ghana's page for school candidates says school candidates register during roughly six weeks between September and November, with data uploaded online and fees paid at a designated bank. Private candidates register online only, between February and May. Registration for school candidates is done by the school, so speak to your head teacher or examinations officer to confirm that your details and subjects are correct.

In 2026, MyJoyOnline also reported that practical sessions and project work in subjects such as Visual Arts and Home Economics began before the main written papers. If you take such a subject, ask your teacher how practical assessment will be scheduled for 2027.

Keep a record of what you hear

School rumours about dates travel fast. When you hear a date, ask where it came from. A WAEC notice, a GES statement or a letter from your head teacher counts. A voice note forwarded on a class group does not. Write the source next to any date in your planner, and update it when WAEC publishes the timetable.

Practise WAEC-style questions

WASSCE questions are set by WAEC across West Africa, so practising WAEC-style questions is useful preparation for your exam. We do not claim that Ghana and Nigeria papers are identical, and ExamPadi does not yet have a Ghana-specific question bank. You can practise WAEC-style questions free at ExamPadi WAEC practice.

Frequently asked questions

When does the 2027 WASSCE start in Ghana?

The GES 2026/27 calendar for senior high schools was reported in June 2026 as putting the 2027 WASSCE from Tuesday 6 April. WAEC Ghana had not listed a 2027 timetable on its timetable page when we checked on 29 October 2026, so treat this as provisional.

When does the 2027 WASSCE end?

Reports differ. Graphic Online reported 18 June 2027, while MyJoyOnline reported 28 June 2027. The official WAEC timetable will settle it.

Where will the official WASSCE timetable be published?

On WAEC Ghana's timetable page at waecgh.org/timetable, which already lists WASSCE timetables for earlier years.

Is the Ghana WASSCE the same as the Nigeria WASSCE?

Both are West African Senior School Certificate Examinations, with questions set by WAEC across West Africa, but timetables, registration and grading arrangements are handled per country. The papers are not necessarily identical across countries.
